{"id":295,"date":"2010-03-27T21:07:25","date_gmt":"2010-03-28T02:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/?p=295"},"modified":"2010-03-30T21:16:31","modified_gmt":"2010-03-31T02:16:31","slug":"deep-creek-waterfalls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/?p=295","title":{"rendered":"Deep Creek Waterfalls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deep Creek is a campground and trailhead in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.\u00a0 It&#8217;s located just outside Bryson City on the North Carolina side of the park.\u00a0 From the Deep Gap trailheads it is an easy 3 mile loop (or less if you backtrack a bit) to reach three different waterfalls.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_296\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-296\" style=\"width: 378px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-296\" title=\"toms_branch_falls\" src=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/toms_branch_falls.jpg\" alt=\"Tom's Branch Falls\" width=\"378\" height=\"382\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/toms_branch_falls.jpg 378w, http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/toms_branch_falls-296x300.jpg 296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 378px) 100vw, 378px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-296\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tom&#39;s Branch Falls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tom&#8217;s Branch Falls is just about 2\/10ths of a mile up the Deep Creek Trail and enters Deep Creek from a side stream.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_297\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-297\" style=\"width: 424px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-297\" title=\"indian_creek\" src=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/indian_creek.jpg\" alt=\"Indian Creek Falls\" width=\"424\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/indian_creek.jpg 424w, http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/indian_creek-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 424px) 100vw, 424px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-297\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Indian Creek Falls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Farther up the Deep Gap trail, Indian Creek Falls is just off of the main trail.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_298\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-298\" style=\"width: 416px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-298\" title=\"juney_whank\" src=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/juney_whank.jpg\" alt=\"Juney Whank Falls\" width=\"416\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/juney_whank.jpg 416w, http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/juney_whank-287x300.jpg 287w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 416px) 100vw, 416px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-298\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Juney Whank Falls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Juney Whank Falls is actually about a half mile in the opposite direction from the trailhead.  It can be reached by backtracking (which is cheating of course) or by crossing Deep Creek and doubling back on the Deep Creek Horse Trail.<br \/>\nThe bridge over the falls is rather surprisingly close to the water.
