Despite the relative difficulty in getting there, it was pretty crowded on the day we went.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_256\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-256\" style=\"width: 324px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/south_mountains_sp.jpg\" alt=\"South Mountains State Park\" title=\"south_mountains_sp\" width=\"324\" height=\"415\" class=\"size-full wp-image-256\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/south_mountains_sp.jpg 324w, http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/south_mountains_sp-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 324px) 100vw, 324px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-256\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">South Mountains State Park<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The park has a dense network of trails in the eastern half.  By far the biggest draw is High Shoals Falls which is about a mile or so from the parking area.  Several different sources bill this hike as easy.   While it&#8217;s short it actually involves a lot of climbing on uneven, slippery stairs.  <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_257\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-257\" style=\"width: 323px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/high_shoals_falls.jpg\" alt=\"High Shoals Falls\" title=\"high_shoals_falls\" width=\"323\" height=\"437\" class=\"size-full wp-image-257\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/high_shoals_falls.jpg 323w, http:\/\/mrfs.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/high_shoals_falls-221x300.jpg 221w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-257\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">High Shoals Falls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Technically, there&#8217;s no swimming at the falls although we saw about 20 people directly in front of the no swimming sign.
